Hi there,

I hope you're doing well.

I just released a new video that I couldn't wait to share with you. I sat down with a master swordsmith and asked him something I'd always wondered: are there fake antique katana out there? His answer surprised me.

He walked me through how incredibly skilled forgers copied old masters' signatures stroke for stroke, aged the blades with artificial rust, and flooded Japan with counterfeits during the sword boom decades ago. One fake was so convincing it earned a genuine authentication paper — until the living smith confessed he'd made it himself.

He also shared a simple rule that exposes almost every forgery, plus a perspective that genuinely moved me: even a blade with a forged signature was still made with a real craftsman's heart.

I'd love to hear what you think after watching.

Talk soon,

Kind Regards,

Kei, Matt & Team from the History of Katana
